Hosting a child
Hosting a Belarusian child is a huge undertaking, but is also incredibly rewarding. Each child normally comes to Sussex for 4 consecutive summers, allowing the children and their family in Belarus to build a strong relationship with their host family. The job of a host family is to provide a comfy bed, plenty of nourishing food, and a warm and welcoming home.
While the children are in the UK they attend and take part in an activity programme Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm. We meet every day at the Martindale Centre in Hosted Keynes where some of the activities take place, but most days we will spend at least part of the day out and about swimming, horse riding, going to the beach, activity parks, local schools, the zoo and much much more. The weekends are left entirely up to the host families, however there is always an interpreter on call, and the group coordinator can be reached at any time during the visit to answer queries or help sort out any problems.
All families undergo full DBS checks and home visits prior to hosting. They must live within a reasonable distance of Horsted Keynes, and have the ability to transport the child to and from the daily activity programme.
Nearly every year we have new children starting the program so we are always on the lookout for new host families. If you are interested or would like to find out more, please get in touch.
